Summer Means Sun, Sand and Sea When You Buy a new Home at SeaGreen in Greystones

There are many truly great things about the seaside town of Greystones, from its position as a culinary hotspot to the many family pastimes to  keep everybody active, from its well-known  Cliff Walk to its  hidden gems, and one thing most locals will agree on, is that the beaches are definitely one of them. If you own, or are looking to buy, one of the beautiful new houses at SeaGreen Gate in Greystones, the sun, sea and sand at these beaches in  this perfect location are a great way to enjoy an  active lifestyle.

There are two beaches in Greystones – the shingled North Beach beside the harbour, and the sand and stone South Beach at the southern end of the town. Greystones actually gets its name from the kilometre-long stretch of grey stones that separates the two.

Just as Greystones enjoys an  easy commute to Dublin city centre and the surrounding areas via a great public transport system and road network, the South Beach is also very accessible by DART, but for those living at SeaGreen, it’s just a short walk from your front door to the sand and the water’s edge.

Awarded a Blue Flag, the half-mile long South Beach is lifeguarded during the warmer months, and also has an adjacent playground, completely refurbished and improved this year, for children who want to take a break from splashing around and swimming in the clean and clear water.

The Blue Flag means that dogs will not be allowed on the beach from June to the end of August, so you don’t have to worry about anybody stepping in something unpleasant while sunbathing or going for a paddle.

Even in the winter months, the South Beach proves popular, with many hardy souls taking to the water for a refreshing dip, such as during the  annual Christmas swim.

One place many locals flock to is the little inlet known as Lady’s Cove that is situated between the two beaches. As well as the clean sand you can catch some rays from, it has great rocks to jump off and lots of opportunities for beachcombing to find interesting bits and bobs from the sea and creatures such as anemones at low tide, so your children will have a great time while you relax and enjoy the weather.

The North Beach at the harbour also provides locals with an array of  water-based activities, with the sailing club, sea scouts and angling club all situated nearby. The recently modernised marina accommodates up to 250 boats and attracts sailing fans from all over the world, so even if you don’t fancy getting into the water, you can enjoy a great day on it.

Greystones sailing club offers dinghy and keelboat sailing courses for children and adults alike, so if you don’t yet know your rudder from your tiller, you can sign up and soon be able to take to the water right from the beach and check out the coast from a different vantage point.

Of course, one thing that makes both of these beaches truly stand out is the jaw-dropping setting. Looking out across the sea, you can take in the views of nearby Bray Head all the way across Dublin Bay to Howth, while behind you stands the beautiful Wicklow Mountains.

Dolphins have been known to come close to shore for a visit, and while you may not see any whales, on a very fine day you can actually make out Wales on the distant horizon.

After a  perfect summer day on the beach, it’s great to know that you can walk the few minutes back into town to sate your appetite at one of the many great cafes, restaurants and pubs. From healthy food at The Happy Pear to crepes at Pierre Grise to pizza from the Delgany Inn, or even a cold treat from the Spendlove ice cream parlour, there’s a fantastic selection on offer to suit any tastes.

For owners of the new four-bedroom  Wilde, the  Beckett or the  Yeats houses at the SeaGreen Gate development, it is also great to know that after a day on one of the two beaches, or both if you are feeling active, it is only a few minutes’ walk back to your new home, where you can enjoy the comfort these superb new builds offer. Whether you want to gather in  the kitchen to share stories of your day, or plan to enjoy the  penthouse feel within a family home the innovative design of the interiors provides, is up to you.

The beaches in Greystones are just another reason why this seaside location is such a great place to live, but however you decide to spend the sun-filled summer days here, it is always good to know that  your new home is just a hop, skip and jump across the sand away.

The Happy Pear

The Happy Pear is one of the most well-known eateries in the town, made famous by the Flynn brothers Dave and Steve, who with a little help from their family, have developed what was a fruit and veg shop into one of Ireland’s best-loved health food eateries.

There are a few small tables out front at the Church Road café (they also have one at the Shoreline), but it is out the back where most sun-lovers venture to try the exotic and locally-grown fare. It’s great to sit out here and relax in the sun while tempting your taste buds with some sweet potato fritters, baked miso aubergine, vegan pies or refreshing salads and vegetarian soups. This is healthy food at its best, and is great to enjoy while soaking up the sun and enjoying the fresh air.

The Happy Pear also offers a guilt-free takeaway menu, so you can enjoy a healthy and delicious meal to bring home to your four-bedroom  Wilde, the  Beckett or the  Yeats house at SeaGreen Gate.

The Beach House

Talking of Greystones institutions, for many people who stroll along  the Cliff Walk, the first port of call once they arrive in Greystones is The Beach House, a lovely pub and restaurant right by the harbour. This family owned spot has been here since 1850 and continues to prove popular with locals and visitors.

There is an a la carte menu from Monday to Saturday, with food also served on Sundays, but one of the best things about this Greystones institution is the lovely outdoor seating area where you can dig into the tasty food while enjoying a refreshing drink and the beautifully sunny weather.

Las Tapas

Sampling delicious plates of food under the sun brings to mind holidays in Spain, and tapas is the perfect snack for the summer.

At Las Tapas on Church Road, you can order from the long list of Spanish delicacies and specialities, from breads and olives to chicken with salsa to spicy meatballs, to paella and chorizo, there is something here to satisfy every taste, and while the interior is lovely, in the summer it’s great to sit outside and enjoy the sun while watching the world go by.

The Three Qs

Staying on the continent, The Three Qs offers breakfast brunch and evening menus cooked up by brothers Brian, Colin and Paul Quinn. With a Spanish, French and Italian leaning, this cosy and friendly little restaurant is considered one of the finest in Greystones, and you may have to move fast to secure one of the few tables outside.

Once you do though, the food is great, with the breakfast menu offering porridge, croque monsieur, French toast and croissants, and the evening menu including everything from Spanish fish stew with chorizo to lamb shanks to good old fish and chips.

Bochellis

Also on Church Road you can find Bochellis, an Italian restaurant with a number of outdoor tables. There’s a large menu of pizza and pasta dishes, as well as a few chef’s specialities that include fillet of beef wrapped in Italian ham, veal escalopes and chicken in red wine and tomato sauce, but when  summer is here it is always a good idea to try a fresh fish dish.

From fresh mussels in chili, garlic and tomato sauce, to calamari rings to penne with prawns and mussels and fresh and smoked salmon in white wine sauce, there’s plenty here to give you that seaside feel as you bask in the sun.

Tramyard Kitchen

The outdoor seating at the front of Tramyard Kitchen gets some really great sunshine during the summer, so it’s a great place to settle down and enjoy the heat while digging into a burger, pizza, fish dish or steak.

They also have a very long wine list to choose from, so you can while away the long summer days sampling a refreshing tipple while the sun shines down on you and your family or friends.

Spendlove

Everybody loves an ice cream when the sun is shining, and at Spendlove, they offer really great cold treats that will help you stay cool. They also have very good coffee and snacks, but what better way to enjoy the summer sun than to sit and take your time over a delicious ice cream at the outdoor seating area here on Trafalgar Square overlooking the new marina? Or maybe you would prefer to take your ice cream away and enjoy it as you stroll along the harbour?

The number and range of quality eateries with outdoor seating that let you enjoy the summer sun while you dine is just one more reason why Greystones is such a great place to live. All of these culinary delights are just a few minutes away from the development of beautiful new homes at SeaGreen Gate, so if you are one of the owners of these luxurious and family-friendly houses, you can enjoy that al fresco summer dining feeling within a short walk from your home.

The show homes will also be open for viewing this Bank Holiday Weekend, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May, from 2pm to 4pm. But while we are delighted to show just what you can expect from the  Wilde, the  Yeats and the  Beckett four-bedroom houses in this great development, we are just as excited about the changes the warmer weather is bringing to Greystones, and the stunning scenery and enviable lifestyle that makes this thriving seaside town  the perfect location to buy a new home.

For those who enjoy the great outdoors and all that this seaside location has to offer, you need look no further than the famous Cliff Walk between Greystones and Bray. This picture-perfect walk, with its array of wildlife and flora, really comes into its own as the sun begins to shine, with flowers in bloom as far as the eye can see, creating a beautiful landscape like a sea of gold in which to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy  an active lifestyle, as this recent blog from  Greystones Guide reveals.

Even at the seafront, where you can now enjoy a number of  water-based activities, you can’t help but notice the sea of yellow flowers erupting into bloom, and probably won’t be able to resist embarking on the cliff walk to get a closer look and wander through this beautiful vista.

This 7km walk from Greystones to Bray Head (pictured below) has a well-maintained path from start to finish that offers amazing views, no matter where you look. The surrounding coast opens out to one side, with the chance to watch seabirds, porpoises, dolphins and basking sharks in the sea below, while on the other, the majestic flora dazzles anybody who takes to this route for fresh air, exercise, or just to wonder at the beauty of this part of the world.

It’s no surprise that once arriving in Bray, even though the DART line makes the return  commute so easy, many people decide to turn around and make the journey back to Greystones by foot, just so they can take it all in again.

While the trek along this pathway is a feast for the senses, it can be hungry work, so it is just as well that another major attraction to living in Greystones is that the town has become  a real foodie haven, and can provide a literal feast for anybody who wants to drop in and enjoy a well-deserved treat for the tastebuds too.

Probably the most famous eatery in Greystones is  The Happy Pear, which, though popular all year round, can’t be beaten once the sun begins to shine and crowds gather to sit outside and enjoy a tasty meal and  a perfect summer day, whether that’s on the path to the front of the establishment, or in the back yard behind it.

happy_pear_dining_in_greystones_close_to_seagreen_houses_for_sale_perfect_for_summer_lifestyle-1

The family-run establishment focusing on local produce and natural foods, wholefood café and evening restaurant offers a great dining experience, and really adds to the summer feel of the town. It’s no wonder it is known locally as ‘the happiest place on Earth’.

Tucking into one of the many super-healthy, super-tasty dishes the café offers, while the sun shines down, it’s easy to see why locals and visitors alike soon begin to glow with the same vibrancy you see in the surrounding landscape.

Summer is a real celebration at The Happy Pear, with founding twin brothers Dave and Steve Flynn eager to bring the fresh produce the season brings to their menus. An article in  The Irish Examiner saw them extol the virtues of summer living in Greystones and the surrounding area.

‘There is plenty of ripe fruit, the weather is warm, everyone wants to eat healthy and be outside, and everyone is more extroverted,’ Steve says.

‘Strawberries, raspberries and rhubarb are all in season and even Irish cherries, these all excite us, plus there’s the opportunity to go have more picnics and more outdoor dining, which we really adore.’

seagreen_gate_summer_living_is_easy_beautiful_new_houses_for_sale_in_greystones_the_happy_pear

That enthusiasm spreads quickly as the sun shines and the weather gets warmer in Greystones, and the atmosphere of easy, fun living is infectious, making it a truly magical place to call home.

Because of the amazing scenery that really comes into its own as summer rolls around, and the fantastic amenities and special places to sit, relax and enjoy a good meal or a refreshing drink, Greystones is a really special place to visit, but it’s an even better place to call home.

That is  one of the reasons why the development of new houses at  SeaGreen Gate in Greystones is proving so popular. Not only are these homes designed to meet every modern need and convenience, with the highest quality fixtures and fittings throughout, but they are perfectly located overlooking the town and the coast, and are just a stone’s throw from the sea and all the great facilities your family can enjoy close by.

As the pictures above show, Greystones really does come alive in the summertime, and if you choose to buy a new home in the beautiful SeaGreen development, you will quickly find out how easy the living can be.
